This particular Pilot Sakura Pen belongs to one of the rarest piece of Art: Maki-e Pen made by Pilot Pen company, the same company that made Namiki Pens as well as Dunhill Namiki Pens.
This particular piece is pre 1930s and is in excellent ++ condition. The lacquer work is not signed as many of the early pieces were not and should not retract from the enjoyment of this wonderful piece.
It does feature a wonderful collage of Sakura blossoms, the cherry blossoms, in various colors and techniques. There is silver lacquer, orange, yellow/gold, red as well as raden that used to make this pend dance and come alive. This is a true piece of art. The pen features a flat top design which was usually found in the earlier pens. It has the correct “Pilot” clip with the original early “N” lever. It works flawlessly. This Pilot Pen is marked “Pilot Made in Japan” on the bottom of the barrel. This signifies that it was made for the Japanese market and was not produced for export.
The nib of this pen is an early and very rare Falcon nib in the correct number 3 size. Falcon nib was designed to be the Pilot answer for flexible nibs .This one has a cut out on the the side. These are very rare and flexible nibs. This one is no exception. Waterman has the rare “black or pink” nibs. Dunhill Namiki Pilot pens have the “falcon” nibs. This particular nib has all original intact and the pen is ready for use. The feed is an original Pilot replacement from that time.
Sakura is also known as the cherry blossom and has very important significance in Japan. The Sakura in Japan is a symbol that life is short and beautiful and as the flower, it is very short lived.
