Vintage Platinum Maki-e Landscape and Pagoda
Old 1930’s Platinum Makie lever filler in a very rare pattern is offered here. This spectacular lacquer fountain pen is truly a piece of art. It features many maki-e techniques including takamakie, hiramakie, and raden. The scene of the pen features small islands amidst waves in raised takamakie lacquer with beautiful trees that have aogai, gold or rarely used silver urushi on the barrel. The cap features the horizon which shows the same waves in the distance, 2 aogai sails and the distant full moon in raden. The contrast of colors, the techniques used and serenity of this pen make it a Masterpiece from Platinum. The artist of this Platinum pen is Shuzan, I have seen many of his pieces and I find them more interesting than Rosui, to some, the most acclaimed Platinum Maki-e master of the 1930’s. This is one of the best platinum pens I have seen from the 1930’s. It is restored and in immaculate condition, it is all original.
